The Balkan Music Crossroads initiative is a direct response on how culture can contribute to the search for a common European identity, and prevents the spread of nationalistic tendencies, the uprising xenophobia, and the unwillingness to understand the historical developments in which today’s European is rooted.
It will tap directly into the vast cultural and music traditions of the Balkans and the modern music styles among the young people, offering cultural operators skills and tools how to explore this richness, and enable mutual learning between the young people in the region, preparing in particular the young people in the region to develop a sense of European identity and fully integrate into the future enlarged Europe, in parallel to the political processes that should lead to the same outcome.
Apart from the young people, the project will offer skills on how to attract families and local communities, inviting them to question the existing assumptions and prejudices.
It will also help young people consolidate their confidence in Europe as place of cultural integration not separation.
